We really wanted to enjoy this book but at the end of the day, it just fell flat. A Cinderella-esque story, the inner monologues of the lead protagonists were so annoying. If we had to read one more ‘holy___ Batman,’ the book would have ended up as kindling. Danielle was unbelievably immature one moment and then ready to take on the world the next. And she lowkey kidnapped a dog. Darien hates that people get star struck and hung up over him and his physique, but then goes and does the same thing to his co-star.
How how Danielle and Darien first got in contact was unbelievable as well. I worked in a big con before and the guy who ran it DID NOT put his cell number on the internet 🤫🤭🤫). The ONLY saving grace for this book is the text conversations between the two protagonists. They came across as sweet and endearing. The author did seem to put a lot of work into the book as a whole. The inclusion of the Reblegunner blog and episode script at the end was a nice touch, but not enough to save the story. In short, it was a ‘balloon book.’ Pretty to look, seemed nice to have, had just enough material to be somewhat entertaining, but once the air or plot was let out, it just went flat.
